We are a collaborative group of grassroots leaders, chiefs of police and federal law enforcement, city government leaders, pastors and faith leaders, non-profit leaders, and elected officials, representing the four cities of the Virginia Peninsula. This group gathered for the first time on the campus of Christopher Newport University on January 20, 2022. This was the first time the local faith community has initiated these conversations. In the first session we examined violence in our communities by bringing everyone to the table and valuing their voices, their lived experiences, and the historical framework that has brought us to this point in time. There is a way out, but it requires all of us to acknowledge the truth and then act.
A follow-up session is scheduled on March 3, 2022, 1:30pm (ET) via Zoom. It is our desire to expand the conversation and get everyone involved in working to help our communities so that all have the opportunity to flourish through a balanced, holistic approach.
