In 1 Thessalonians 4 we read “…and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands.” Is this a dreary statement by Paul? Who wants to listen to a sermon on why we should work hard? Don’t we all know this? But in fact, this text is packed with insight and relevance for us. The Bible has a revolutionary doctrine of work, and we are dying as a society for lack of it.
