Urban Agriculture and the Gospel

Speaker: Ryan Kubicina – Lead Pastor, King’s Family Church and Executive Director, Rock Solid Urban Impact

Description

Many Christians describe the Gospel as Good News—the Hope of Jesus in this world. Sometimes, that hope hits the ground—literally. Join us for the inspiring story of how one group of people here in KC began to make a difference in one specific neighborhood here in KC. This session is a story about the way these specific actions resulted in specific outcomes—think zipcode 64127, think raspberry bushes, think Nigerian dwarf goats (and chickens!). It’s a story about specific outcomes stirring and growing a kind of Hope. This session is about urban agricultural development in the Lykins neighborhood of Kansas City. But maybe—just maybe—it’s about replicating some of these specifics amongst other people in other places and then watching more raspberries and, yes, more hope begin to take root.

Who Might Find This Helpful

This session will be helpful for those who desire to hear what God was been doing in the Lykins neighborhood of Kansas City through community centered urban agriculture. Those that have a heart for “out of the box” urban ministry will be intrigued and encouraged. Working with KCMO city officials, KCPD, and Lykins Neighborhood Association, King’s Family Church has developed strategies and relationships to “rebuild the ruins” of their neighborhood.
