If I Follow Jesus Should I Quit My Job?

We’ve all seen the effects of the sacred-secular divide because it often prompts the question – does my job matter? To really follow Jesus, do I need to quit my job and become a pastor?

Referencing Mark 1:19-20, Mark Roberts of the Max De Pree Center for Leadership offers us great insight into this question in this two-part Life for Leaders blog series (read Part 1 here and Part 2 here).

Those who say “Yes” to Jesus are to be affirmed and supported.

But, I am concerned about the underlying message that is often communicated by those who leave their jobs to “follow Jesus.”

If we follow Jesus faithfully, then how we live and how we work will be radically altered, even if we remain in the same jobs we had before saying, “Yes” to Jesus.
