Evaluating Ministry Through the Lens of Self-Giving Love (Phoenix)

Presenter: Jon Hori
September 4 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am MDT
Shiloh Community Church, 19021 N 32nd St
Phoenix, 85050 United States

We know success in pastoral ministry is measured by something different than seats (attendance) and receipts (giving), but we don't always know how to measure the fruit of our local churches. How does the gospel shape our understanding and practice of truly successful ministry? What does it look like for the shape of the dying and rising of Jesus to be evident in evaluating our work? Come and find out!

About Jon Hori:
Jon Hori served for 19 years in pastoral ministry first as an associate pastor and then as a church planter. When Jon read Paul Miller’s "A Praying Life" in 2009 and then hosted his first seeJesus training, he knew he’d discovered an invaluable tool that impacted his life and ministry. In 2015, Jon joined seeJesus to serve as their Regional Director for the West Coast and East Asia. In this role, Jon trains pastors, missionaries, and churches throughout the United States as well as in East and South Asia. Jon and Sonia, his wife of 21 years, along with their four children currently live in Southern California.

Forming Young Adults for Faith in the Workplace (Twin Cities)

Presenter: Elaine Howard Ecklund
September 17 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am CDT
Station 19, East Bank Campus, UMN, 2001 University Ave SE, Suite 100
Minneapolis, MN United States

For many, work is the single largest time commitment in life. And for many, faith and church community are the most meaningful commitments in life. Elaine Howard Ecklund, professor of sociology and director of the Religion and Public Life Program (RPLP) at Rice University, is currently leading a national study to understand how people integrate these two facets of life.

Elaine says about the project: “Our goal is that detailed data collection and carefully designed outreach efforts will put easy-to-understand data into the hands of as many U.S. clergy as possible and create networks of clergy who are trained to meet the spiritual needs of working men and women.”

Please join us for a conversation with Elaine aimed at helping campus ministers and pastors understand what she’s discovering about faith and work through this research, and what it means for our efforts to help students and young adults prepare for a lifetime of Christian faithfulness in the workplace.
