Practicing The King’s Economy (Dallas)
November 14 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am CST
Presenter: Dr. Brian Fikkert
Brian Fikkert from the Chalmers Center will explore what it looks like for Christians to live within the biblical story and practice the “King Jesus Economy.” He will offer an invitation to a way of economic discipleship that cuts through the economic beliefs and practices often accepted in our secular culture and instead exhibits the characteristics of Christ’s kingdom.
Brian Fikkert is a professor of economics and community development and the founder and president of the Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College. He is the coauthor of the best-selling book When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself as well as Helping Without Hurting in Short-Term Missions, Helping Without Hurting in Church Benevolence, and From Dependence to Dignity: How to Alleviate Poverty Through Church-Centered Microfinance. Fikkert earned a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University, specializing in international economics and economic development. Prior to coming to Covenant College, he served as a professor at the University of Maryland, College Park and a research fellow at the Center for Institutional Reform and the Informal Sector.
Dr. Fikkert will stick around to spend extra time with MTF pastors from 9:00 – 10:30 am. Please email Blake Schwarz directly if you plan to stick around for this time, so that we can set up an appropriately sized room.
