More Than Avatars: The Value of Embodiment in a Time of Disorientation (Twin Cities)
October 1 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm CDT
Presenter: Sara Joy ProppeFree
The wake of 2020 thus far has been disorienting. From the pandemic, to the protests and riots, to the economic fallout, our daily lives have been drastically altered. As much of life has transitioned “online,” everyone is reevaluating the use of physical spaces. For churches in particular the virtualization of services and programs with the realities of being the church scattered has raised deep questions about the importance of church buildings and place. But, place matters.
As a placemaking advocate, Sara Joy will unpack the biblical significance of God’s gift of embodiment in physical places serving to moor us in our relationship to God and to our neighbors, while showing how our current disorientation is an opportunity to reorient churches to creatively use places to serve those in proximity to them.
